Language Interpretation Services

The Interpreter Services Department is a free, on-site service which provides spoken and sign language interpretation services to patients and families with limited English proficiency (LEP), or those who are deaf, deafened, or hard of hearing.

We strive to provide the most appropriate and highest quality language services to patients and families who receive care at SickKids. SickKids supports only the use of tested and trained interpreters provided through this department.

Our primary mandate is the exchange of medical information through spoken or sign language interpretation to facilitate communication between health-care providers and patients/families that do not share a common language.
